For my first project post graduation, I really wanted to challenge myself by creating a large cohesive street market.

When I was thinking of ideas I was immediately brought back to a moment in September 2023. On my way to got a bagel one morning, I walked past a block during the San Gennaro Feast in Little Italy. I was hit with the smell of not only delicious Italian food but memories of my grandma’s kitchen.

  • I started the project by blocking out the street image that I had in my mind. I used Kitbash sets from school that were the perfect assets to help me grasp the exact shapes I was trying to carve out in my scene!

Once I had the street layout setup, worked on finding references and picking out a modeling style! I landed on taking inspiration from Turning Red and their “chunky cute” style of the objects modeling. Reference finding took almost an entire week due to the sheer scale of props and buildings. Some objects like food also have different variations as well to make the environment feel as lived in as possible! I used PureRef to organize all of my references for this project.

In addition, at this point in the process I began to create my production spreadsheet which would serve as my hub for all things asset related. Being organized is my key to success in projects. I really enjoy breaking my projects down into their tiny respective boxes. Here’s a snanpshot of this spreadsheet’s asset tracker!

Right now I’m diving deep into modeling and UVing and making sure all of my models have good and efficient topology! Check out the progress I have so far as well as a few close ups!

As this is still a work in progress my UDIMs right now are organized by what stand the objects are located in.

Some of the stands included in this set is a sausage and peppers booth, a fried oreo cart, and a balloon popping carnival game!

Since the fried oreo cart is closest to camera, it also needs super detailed props. Modeling the oreo was a challenge and helped me understand how to efficiently model a really detailed ornate object!
